The University of Applied Arts Vienna (Angewandte) is looking for a motivated and experienced individual responsible for programming a database-supported Web application to interlink, document, and increase visibility of art and science. The position is available for full-time or part-time (20 or 30 hrs/week) for a duration of two-and-a-half years, with effect from September 2019, within the research project “Portfolio/Showroom – Making Art Research Accessible” (2017–2021, portfolio-showroom.ac.at) funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research in cooperation with basis wien, Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

As a location for innovation in art and science, the Angewandte is working on a future-oriented solution to digitally display activities in art, science, and teaching, as well as to support the work of staff, students, and alumni. At the same time, the two Web-based applications “Portfolio” and “Showroom” aim for international visibility of artistic and scientific activities at the university and its environment.

You are responsible for the concept development and implementation of Web applications as part of a small team. You will be working together with domain experts in art research, graphic designers, as well as external cooperation partners.

Your profile
-    Expertise and several years of experience in the development of web applications
-    Excellent handling of Web technologies (JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, RESTful, SOAP, …)
-    Knowledge of Responsive Web Design and innovative User Experience
-    Experience with relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and non-relational databases (MongoDB)
-    Working experience with version control systems (git)
-    Acquaintance with Linux Server environment
-    Experience with Python and Python-based Web application frameworks (e.g. Flask, Django, etc.) would be an advantage
-    Experience with JavaScript frameworks (e.g. AngularJS, ReactJS, Vue.js, etc.) would be an advantage
-    Knowledge of Elasticsearch and Elastic Stack would be an advantage
-    Experience with Docker would be an advantage
-    Experience in the area of Linked Open Data and Controlled Vocabularies would be an advantage

The minimum gross salary the position currently amounts to € 3.396 full-time (by part-time aliqout) per month (14x per annum) as per the wage agreement KV.
